You should be able to get everything you need from one of several
FTP sites. I'd try either ftp.cica.indiana.edu, or perhaps
biochemistry.bioc.cwru.edu (has Beta versions).
Don't be surprised if you can't get through because these sites
see quite a bit of traffic. You should try using Archie to search
for alternative sites if you run into trouble. You'll find Trumpet
everywhere if you look.
Some of the various FAQs that are floating around will also offer
help in pointing you to what you need.

I'm a little unclear about what your situation is. SLIP
(in a nutshell) allows your computer to behave as if it's
connected to the Internet. You receive an IP address when
you issue the SLIP command to your terminal server. From
that point on, whatever program that you wish to run will
run on YOUR machine. Not the terminal server. If you wish
to run telnet, you need a telnet client on your machine at
home. If you want to run gopher, you need a gopher client
on your machine, etc, etc.
All of these clients exist as separate programs on your
machine, and you need a specialized client for each thing
which your want to do.
Could you clarify exactly what happens when you try to start
one of your clients? That way we may be able to help you
better.
Good luck.

Actually, you're supposed to extract the archive with the "-d" flag...
i.e., xwindemo -d, or pkunzip -d xwindemo.exe. That recreated the
directory structure.

I would really like to thank both of you for helping the rest of us get
started in socket programming. THANKs for sharing the code too. I
really liked the clear response too.

Packet drivers for DOS (real mode) wont work under Windows (protected mode)
without a little help. You need to run your packet driver under DOS and THEN
run WINPKT.COM. You should be able to find this utility with trumpet winsock
distribution. This lets the packet driver work under Windows and Trumpet will
then work ok.
